Hebrews 3:1-6
1: Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;
2: He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.
3: For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.
4: For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
5: Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later;
6: but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
We are to consider Jesus who is both the Apostle and High Priest of our confession—our confession of faith in Him. He is the apostle of God toward us, bringing a message from God, a pleading to respond to His Son; and He is the High Priest of man toward God, pleading our case to Him. He is truly the Mediator between God and man.
Paul said Christ Jesus was faithful to the One who appointed Him—God the Father—just as Moses was faithful in all his house—all that was entrusted to him by God. They both were faithful to God’s call, yet Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses just as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.
Moses was “built” by someone—God—who created all things with the Son (Hebrews 1:2, John 1:3). Moses was a faithful servant in the house of God, testifying of what was to come. Jesus is the Master of the house—the faithful Son. Moses is to be honored for his faithfulness and service to God, yet Jesus is worthy of more honor and glory being the one who founded and built the work—the people of God and the way for God and man to be reconciled.
We are His house (1 Corinthians 3:16) as long as we hold fast to the confident rejoicing of our hope firm until the end. We will remain His dwelling place if we remain faithful, if we keep the hope before us always that He will do as He has promised and finish the work. He will come again and the reality of our place in Him will be revealed to all.
