Romans 14:10-15
10: But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.
11: For it is written, “AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD.”
12: So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.
13: Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way.
14: I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15: For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.
All of us will stand before the judgment seat of God and give an account of ourselves. It is not our place to judge or despise our brother or sister by thinking they are not right in their convictions. Each one of us has to do what we think is right before God. (Of course, there are clearcut Scriptural guidelines that all believers must follow, but Paul is referring to personal convictions).
Paul quoted Isaiah 45:23 to make his point that He is Lord and God of all. Rather than arguing with each other about food, we should instead determine not to put obstacles in our brother’s path. We want to help each other obey God, not trip them up with our own opinions. We must trust the Holy Spirit to lead and guide all of us in our own individual paths.
Paul said he is convinced that nothing was unclean in and of itself, but if a person thinks it is, then it is. If a person thinks that God does not allow something, even if he’s wrong, it would be wrong of him to partake of that because he would in his own mind, be allowing himself to disobey God. Don’t try to get a person to follow your convictions in these matters.
